Aviator Hotel, Farnborough, England

Hello folks,

Now at Epiplo Aris, we have a lot of love for design and stylish Hotels. On a recent visit to the UK for a dear friends surprise birthday we stumbled upon part of the surprise which was a beautiful dinner followed by the party of all parties in one of the most beautiful rooms - The Sky Lounge at the Aviator Hotel.

Ooh and best of all? We were offered one of the suites to stay in after the party... so no late taxi ride for us!

The Aviator Hotel is just one super stylish, contemporary Hotel located in Farnborough, Hampshire, on a privately-owned airport. Surprisingly there was hardly any noise what so ever.

The hotel has been built in the same style as the private jets you can see landing from one of the hotel's wings, purely because The Aviator is an architectural gem built in the shape of an airplane propeller. The interiors are deeply seductive and discreet whilst the suites and bedrooms have a much softer yet warm tones of chocolate and beige.

HOW TO MAKE CONTEMPORARY UPHOLSTERY WORK IN YOUR HOME:

Bold modern fabrics are the trend of the moment so follow our guide of new ways to use them...

Strong, modern fabrics have spun upholstery back into fashion. Think button backs on slick metal seats, fitted cushions on iconic chairs, fringed stools in sharp, contrasting shades and you have the essence of statement upholstery: confident, contemporary and ultra-sophisticated.

Top tips for making contemporary upholstery work in your home:

Graham Noakes, sales and marketing director at Osborne & Little, says, 'A single, bold fabric can be the starting point for a harmonious scheme, providing the pattern doesn't overwhelm the rest of the room.'

Try a strongly patterned headboard with a simple bed cover, or a re-covered period chair alongside a plain, contemporary sofa.

Don't be afraid to mix fabrics, such as linen with fine silk, or bold florals with stripes

When it comes to choosing the colour of a fabric, be inspired by your lifestyle. Look at your wardrobe, a favourite painting or a rug you already have.

Order a fabric sample first – the colour may not look the same in your own home as it does in the shop.

Remember, if a piece of furniture was manufactured after 1941, you must re-cover it in fire-retardant material.

Finally, if you're nervous of having a piece upholstered in a bold fabric, try loose covers.

We heart Paisley!

You're probably wondering what's been tickling our taste buds this month, well summer is truly upon us and it's time to get our Outdoor living space spruced and spiced up.

This month Epiplo Aris have been focusing on their very own Balcony space which is currently a bit of a blank canvas albeit a few pots of plants. So far, we've got two benches which need cushions.

It was time to do a bit of a recce on outdoor living spaces and also to catch up with our fave design & interior blogs. The little inspiration board above highlights just some of the pictures that caught our attention.

At Marimekko, bold bright prints were high on the agenda for summer. The Catwalk also showed bold prints, lots of colour and as well as a few paisley prints. There's nothing like a modern take on paisley to update a boho mood. We've opted to go with a sky blue coated fabric for the main seating cushion and a bold modern print for the mini, decorative cushions. Below we've captured some perfect outdoor living spaces from Coco+Kelley who has been deciding what to do with her own patio in the States.
